Class 1 2019 - 2020

Mrs Hyland

Class 1 Teacher

Welcome to Class 1. We are all busy settling into our new class as Year 1 and Year 2 and are already working hard and having lots of fun!

The Year 1 children are adapting to the move away from the Foundation Stage curriculum to the KS1 subjects but we are still very much influenced by the Early Years philosophy so there is lots of learning through play and practical activities.

As the older children settle into Year 2, their curriculum will become more teacher directed  but will still have your child's needs and interests at its core.

We have a busy and exciting curriculum planned for this term around our topic "Journeys" which we will tell you about on our blog but I hope you will also soon start hearing about!

As part of our many planned reading activities your child will be regularly reading to an adult in school so will need their school reading book in school every day. Do write in their Reading Record if they finish their book at home and we will ensure they get a new book the next day.

All the children will be working on different phonics and spellings each week with a red spelling book going home every day to practise. The children need to bring this back to school each day so we can practise in school too ready for the test on Monday.

We will be going to the Woodland School site every Wednesday, rain or shine so all children will need to be wearing their wellies and waterproof coats and trousers (even if it is dry as you might be surprised how much time they spend crawling, rolling and lying in the mud!) We provide a school snack but the children may bring their own if they prefer and they all need their own water bottle. They also need their uniform to change into when we get back to school.

PE continues to be on a Thursday but it is easier if the children bring their PE kit to school on a Monday so it is in their cubby hole ready when they need it.

We will now be having our very popular "Show and Tell" sessions on Fridays. The children have been put into Show and Tell groups but I will remind them when it is their turn to bring in their Show and Tell.

Come and see me anytime if you have any questions or concerns or just want to see the amazing work your child is doing! And please do let me know if there is anything that impacts on your child's wellbeing at any time so we can work together to support them.

It really is a privilege to be your child's class teacher - I am looking forward to working with you.
