We have reached the end of another fantastic week in Red Squirrel class!
In Maths this week, Year 1 have been learning all about parts and wholes. We were introduced to a part whole model, which we used in order to recognise that a whole can be split into two or more parts. We used our stem sentences to describe what we could see in the part whole model. Year 2 have been learning strategies to support them to add and subtract numbers within 10 fluently. We learnt that when you add together two whole numbers, you will always get an even number as the answer. We also learnt that when you add/subtract two to an odd number, the answer will be odd. When you add/subtract 2 to an even number, the answer will be even.
In English, we listened to another Tinga Tinga tale "Why Lion roars." We enjoyed this one! We had to sequence events in the story and then we wrote a recount of it. Year 2 have been focusing on extending their sentences using "because" and Year 1 have been using "and."
Our Phonics sounds this week have been ur, ow (as in crown) and oi.
In Science, we learnt about the word "adaptation." We know that this means to change in order to suit our environment. We found out about lots of different animals and how they adapt to survive. Then we played a game of top trumps predators to find out which animals are the fiercest! Next week we are going to make our own top trumps cards!
In Topic, we found out all about the Masaai Mara tribe! We learnt about their culture, where they live, what they wear etc. Then we had a go at making our own Masaai jewellery using lots of bright colours.
In RE, we continued to explore our big question "Why is Christmas important to Christians?" This week, we sequenced the events of the Christmas story, focusing on the word incarnation. We talked about the different people involved in the Christmas story and why they were all important.
In PSHE, we carried on with our work looking at stereotypes, with a focus on bullying this week, as it is Anti bullying week.
In PE, we continued to build on our ball skills, playing different games. On Thursday, we developed our rolls in Gymnastics.
Have a lovely weekend and enjoy the photos of us in the woods last week having a fab time with the leaves!
