This week has been an exciting one! We went on our trip to Chester Zoo and had a fantastic time. It was so lovely to hear all of the facts that Red Squirrel class have remembered about our Africa topic as we walked around. We were very lucky as we saw so many of the African animals that we have been learning about, such as the elephants, rhino, lion, cheetah, jaguar and more! It was a busy day and I was very proud with how well the children represented Clive school.
In English this week, we have been writing a recount all about our trip to Chester Zoo. Year 1 used adjectives to describe the different animals that we saw. Year 2 used time conjunctions to order the events. We wrote these in our best handwriting as they will be going in our writing journals!
In Maths, Year 1 have finished their unit of work looking at numbers from 10 - 100. Next week we will move onto our new unit looking at comparing numbers. In Year 2, we have been looking at adding three addends efficiently. We practiced our number bonds to 10, using these to help us to easily answer a calculation.
In Science, we focused on the seasons and how we have changed from summer to autumn. We looked at our class tree outside and observed the changes that have occured as the seasons change. We drew a picture of this and labelled it. Then, we looked at the difference in daylight hours in the summer months and the autumn months.
In Topic, we watched some animals on safari and talked about why animals migrate. We watchec some animals migrating in the Masaai Mara in Kenya. We imagined we were going on safari and what we might pack in our suitcases!
We have been focusing on the phase 3 sounds oa and oo this week in phonics. The "oo" being the short vowel sound like in "book" or "look."
Have a lovely weekend everyone!
