We are another week down and this half term seems to be flying by!
We had a wonderful trip to Chirk Castle on Tuesday. The children were fantastic and represented the school so well. We even had a member of the public and a volunteer at the castle commenting on the behaviour of the class, which was wonderful.
In English, we wrote a recount of our trip. This writing will go in our special writing journals to show off the fabulous writers that we are in Red Squirrel class! Year 1 are focusing on using capital letters and full stops independently in their writing. Year 2 included adjectives and a range of conjunctions.
In Maths, we have started new units of work. Year 1 have been recognising number bonds to 10 this week and looking at how two odd numbers can make 10, as well as two even numbers. Year 2 are looking at division and we began our learning by making equal groups and talking about the link between multiplication and division.
In DT, we designed a chair for a teddy bear king! This chair has to be sturdy and stable, so we thought about the shapes that we will use for the structure, as well as the joins to put it all together.
In RE, we read the story "Jonah and the whale" and talked about the idea of forgiveness again. We spoke about God forgiving Jonah for what he had done, as well as Jonah forgiving the people of Nineveh.
We talked about a balanced diet in PSHE this week. We had to sort a range of foods into different food groups and discuss how to build a balanced meal from these. We recognised that it is ok to have a treat, but we must have a balanced diet to keep healthy.
In Science, we carried out the investigation that we had planned, to find the smoothest material to line our chute for the knights cannonballs to travel down! We decided that the cellophane made from plastic was the smoothest material and therefore the best for our chute.
Have a lovely weekend,
Miss Anderson x
