We have made it to the end of a very busy half term!! Well done to all of the children for being such superstars and working so hard over the past 8 weeks!

In English this week, we read the poetry book "Rumble in the jungle." We identified the rhyming words and alliteration within the book and thought of our own examples. We recognised that for words to rhyme, they have to have the same sounds in them (this linked nicely to our phonics!) Year 2 wrote their own verse about an animal, following the same style of the "rumble in the jungle" book. Year 1 worked together to create a verse, using some of the rhyming words that we thought of.

In Maths, Year 1 have been comparing objects using different vocabulary. We compared the weight, capacity, length and height of objects and now have begun comapring sets of objects. In Year 2 we have been finding the difference between numbers, using a bar model. Our counting cubes have supported us with this over the week as it has been a little tricky!

In Science we explored animal movements. We talked about the different animal groups that we know and how different animals move in many ways. Leopards pounce on their prey, tortoises plod, penguins swim, but they also waddle!

In RE, we completed our final lesson looking at our big question "What is the good news that Christians believe Jesus brings?" We talked about foregiveness again and looked at a phrase from the Lords prayer that talks about this. The children then looked at a picture about forgiveness and spoke about what advice Jesus might bring.

In Topic, we continued to look at the Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya. We compared this to our own capital city, London looking at lots of different pictures of both places.

In PE, we had a Halloween themed session! We played lots of different games, ending with dodgeball which was very exciting.

Our Phonics sounds this week have been oa, oo and oo. We have been consolidating these sounds through phonics play, using our phonics cubes and practicing segmenting and blending words on a whiteboard.

In Computing, we finished this half terms unit of work with some role play. To consolidate our learning around inputs and outputs, the children pretended to work in a shop! Some of us were th cashiers, some of us were the computer and some of us were the stock takers! We had to think about how each role was important and how the computer sends information to help the shop run smoothly.

It has been lovely to see parents at parents evening this week and to share the superb work that your children have completed over the half term. We are now due a very well deserved break and I hope that all have a really restful half term.
