Well done Red Squirrel's for another super week!
In English this week we imagined what would happen if we had a pet dragon in school! Just like with any pet, we would need to find out how to care for it. We started the week using question marks accurately and creating our own questions for how to care for a dragon. We then answered them using the text.
In Phonics we have been focusing on the alternative graphemes for ai and ee. In Year 1 we are being introduced to split digraphs. Words like snake, where the "a_e" sound has been split by a consonant. We will continue to look at split digraphs next week and recap on these sounds to consolidate.
In Maths, Year 2 are still exploring multiplication. We learnt the terms "factor" and "product" and began recapping on counting in 2s. Next week we will continue to count in 2s to solve problems, before moving onto our 5x table. In Year 1, we have been looking at our new unit focusing on numbers 6 - 10. We have explored odd and even numbers and how they are composed and also partitioned the numbers 6 - 10 in different ways.
We had a fantastic Topic session this week where we decided what jobs we would have liked to do if we lived in a Castle in medieval times! We role played these jobs in the classroom.
In RE, we listened to the story of David and Goliath and considered why this story is important to Jewish people.
In Science, we carried out an experiment! A Mummy dragon wanted to keep her egg dry, so she asked us to investigate materials that are waterproof. We made predictions and concluded that the most waterproof materials was the metal and the plastic.
Year 2 have been focusing on silent letters this week in words, particularly the "w". Last week we focused on contracted words and using an apostrophe accurately.
Have a lovely weekend everyone!
