It has been another fantastic week filled with lots of great learning and sunshine!
In English, we created some super pieces of non-fiction writing all about parts of a castle. Year 2 focused on adding subheadings to their work and Year 1 used the conjunction "and" to join clauses. This tied in nicely with our World book day theme!
In Phonics, we looked at the sounds ear and air as we were finding it tricky to remember these. We touch our ear to remember "ear" and stroke our hair to remember "air."
In RE, we read the parable of the Lost Son again and explored further what a parable actually is. They are found in the bible and are stories about God, told by Jesus. We created our own story cubes with different parts from the parable of the Lost Son.
In Science, we carried out an investigation. We created our own dragon machine! This dragon machine had to have windows made from a transparent material! We tested a variety of different materials and decided that cling film was the best choice as we could see through it. We learnt three new words: transparent, translucent and opaque.
In Topic, we put on our special crowns and had our very own medieval banquet! We made our own castle to play in and danced to medieval music. Unfortunately, Miss Anderson couldn't source any peacock, wild boar or pheasant for the occasion, we we settled for mini muffins, breadsticks and squash!
In PSHE, we talked about feeling relaxed and stressed. We discussed what both of these feelings does to our bodies. We talked about what we can do when we are feeling stressed.
World book day was a huge success this year! Thank you to all parents for their fantastic efforts with costumes. It was so wonderful to hear the children talking to excitedly about the person that they had come as. We designed our own book covers, created a lollypop stick bookmark and did some paired reading with Hedgehog class!
Have a fab weekend everyone!
